Botulinum Toxin
Medical aesthetic uses of botulinum toxin beyond lines & wrinkles
Botulinum toxin is widely known for softening facial lines, but it also has powerful clinical and functional applications. When used by a trained practitioner, toxin can safely and effectively treat issues such as excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), jaw clenching/bruxism, masseter hypertrophy, and chin dimpling - delivering both aesthetic and therapeutic benefits.
Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating)
Botulinum toxin is an effective treatment for primary focal hyperhidrosis, particularly in the armpits, palms and soles. It is FDA approved for severe underarm sweating and widely used off label for other regions. Toxin temporarily blocks the nerve signals to sweat glands, reducing excessive perspiration. Treatment effects typically last around 3 months, similar to cosmetic uses.
Masseter Treatment (Jaw Clenching & Jawline Slimming)
Toxin can be injected into the masseter muscles to reduce overactivity associated with jaw clenching, teeth grinding (bruxism), and enlarged jaw muscles. This is a functional and aesthetic treatment frequently taught in advanced toxin training. Relaxing the masseter reduces tension, protects teeth, and can slim the jawline over time.
Chin Dimpling (Overactive Mentalis Muscle)
Chin dimpling or “pebble chin” occurs when the mentalis muscle contracts too strongly, creating an uneven or puckered appearance. Botox is highly effective in relaxing this muscle. By relaxing the mentalis, toxin smooths the chin surface and softens deep creases such as the labiomental crease.
